What we do

Where do you want to go isn’t the real question. But where AIESEC will take you is. Is AIESEC just another club in the university? Absolutely not. AIESEC is the largest youth-led global organization that truly embodies leadership and entrepreneurship development. AIESEC recruits thousands of students annually, those who thrive to become the best in what they do, those who realize that they don’t want to become another safe ship in a harbor and those who get out of the safe zone where the real journey begins.
Interested in AIESEC? Of course you should be.
Here is everything you need to know about the journey that will change lives from good to great.

AIESEC is available in many recognized universities across Sri Lanka. Among all the committees AIESEC Colombo South (University of Moratuwa) occupies a prominent place in AIESEC.

What we do?

AIESEC is creating opportunities that grooms leaders, entrepreneurs and global citizens who transcend borders and geographic constraints. Moreover AIESEC is interested in global issues, community development, skills development and leadership. And that is why AIESEC has launched numerous projects aiming at different issues prevailing in the society, for instance global warming, education, health and nutrition and etc. Uniqueness of AIESEC is that entire operations of AIESEC are managed by university students and recent graduates who are just about to be exposed to the corporate sector. It’s our firm belief that what we do at AIESEC allows students and graduates to develop themselves and to become a stand out in today’s competitive environment.

Interested in knowing how AIESEC works?

Here at AIESEC there are three functions which enable AIESECers (the name by which students involved in AIESEC are called) to achieve the vision of the organization namely The Global Community Development Program (GCDP), Outgoing Exchange (OGX) and The Global Internship Program (GIP). AIESEC’s key expectation is to help students develop themselves while enabling them to create a positive impact on the lives of others.

The Global Community Development Program

GCDP being the biggest and one of the vital functions of AIESEC gives a remarkable experience to both Committee members and exchange participants. (Exchange participants are the interns who join different projects of GCDP held throughout the globe).

Each year, hundreds of interns travel to Sri Lanka with the aim of participating in various GCDP projects that are held. By taking part it is their firm belief that it will allow them to improve and develop their skills set while making a positive impact on the society, environment and economy. Projects that are being held by AIESEC Colombo South are mainly aligned such that they address burning questions such as literacy, cultural clashes, health and lifestyle, global warming and negative effect of synthetic activities on the environment and etc.

AIESEC is a proud organization for being able to create a huge impact on thousands of lives. World leaders such as Kofi Annan admits the huge impact AIESEC has created through thousands of initiatives around the globe.

Here are a few good examples of very important GCDP projects that have an enormous impact.

  • Heal a Nation – a project that aims at creating awareness campaigns and conducting sessions to local undergraduates and graduates on sexual and reproductive health and safety.
  • Ripple Effect – this is a project with a vision of enhancing lives of others so that it will have a ripple effect on the society. Burning questions faced by rural residences are looked into and given solutions by AIESECERS and Exchange participants.

AIESEC in Sri Lanka ranks number 7 globally in terms of incoming exchanges under the Global Citizen Program within the first two quarters of the year 2015” which demarcates the hard work of AIESEC Sri Lanka and a series of projects which are considered value adding to the society.

Incoming Global Talent Program

AIESEC Colombo South also contributes to the Sri Lankan cooperate landscape through its ‘Incoming Global Talent Program’. It facilitates foreign interns to come down and work in Sri Lankan companies. The Incoming Global Talent Program enables local companies to use differentiated talents and skills of global citizens. Last year alone, AIESEC Colombo South completed 18 intern exchanges under its ‘Incoming Global Talent Program’, recording the highest number of exchanges in the term 2014/2015 in AIESEC Sri Lanka. AIESEC CS has successfully foreseen the growing demand for foreign interns from the industries such as leisure, IT and marketing and planning ahead to fulfill the demand for interns in the coming years.

Outgoing Exchange Global Citizen Program

AIESEC’s ‘Outgoing Exchange Global Citizen Program’ (OGX) is designed to assist Sri Lankan undergraduates to participate in the volunteering programs in the different parts of the world. OGX function of AIESEC CS initiated the competition, titled as ‘EP Hunt’, to make the awareness about the program and to encourage the local undergraduates to contribute to the betterment of the world and bring home the skills they acquire at the world stage. ‘EP Hunt’ was proved to be successful, being able to reach the highest number of exchanges within a term in the history of AIESEC in Sri Lanka. AIESEC CS were able to send 25 interns to Malaysia, Vietnam, India and Poland successfully.

Events

Celebrating cultures is one of the pillars that AIESEC has been built on. Therefore, to promote cultural diversity, AIESEC CS organizes ‘Dragon De Danza’ to celebrate Chinese New Year. Last year, over 50 Chinese interns participated the event along with AIESEC CS members. The event was held at the National Youth Centre, Maharagama. The participants relished an eventful evening enjoying traditional Chinese songs, dances, games and food.
Global Village is an annual festival organized by AIESEC CS to celebrate cultural diversity, multi ethnicity and global citizenship. Going along with the term, AIESEC CS creates a ‘global-village’ atmosphere by showcasing the talents of the interns from around the world and with the global market where participants are able to taste the food from different countries of the world. The last ‘Global Village’ festival organized by AIESEC CS was held in K-Zone, Katubedda.

AIESEC CS organized its 2 day hackathon, ‘HACKANIX’ with the collaboration of Microsoft Sri Lanka. The event was held at Trace City, Maradana and 15 teams took part in the competition representing the leading ICT institutes of the island such as University of Moratuwa, University of Colombo, University of Ruhuna, SLIIT and ESoft metro campus. The main motive behind the event was to promote the fast growing ICT industry in the country and to recognize and reward the upcoming talents in the ICT field.

Conferences are a major part of AIESEC culture. To promote the importance of the leadership, AIESEC CS decided to organize their own conference, named as ‘LEAD CS’. The inaugural conference was a 3 day event held at Sanctuary House, Pamunugama, with the participation of more than 100 AIESECERs including 20 international delegates. Ms. Sveta Nikolaeva, President 2014/2015 in Nepal chaired the conference. All the participants took part in skill development Programs and shared their experiences while accumulating some more together.

Having a sound set of corporate partners is a major reason why AIESEC CS could able to reach the pinnacle. The local committee partners of AIESEC CS are Microsoft Sri Lanka and DELL. The exchange partners include Exotic Global Holidays, Aitken Spence Travel, Vogue Jewelers, Millennium IT, Ideamart, Eco Team Sri Lanka, LOLC Leisure, Lideke Wery educational institute, Radicalz. Apart from them, Virtusa, Brandix, 99X technology and README contribute as the conference and event partners of AIESEC CS.

It takes more than one post to cover up what we do here at AIESEC.

We are what we do repeatedly, ‘peace and fulfillment of mankind’s potential; the vision of AIESEC.

College is the place to expand your horizons and get to know about other cultures. One of the great things about living in a residence hall is that you’ll probably meet people from other countries who were raised differently than you were. You may see students who dress in a different manner or eat different foods.
